Mountain Man

The Importance of A Mentor

Like in other aspects in life a good mentor is a very powerful tool that can help take your fitness journey to another level. I was very lucky to find Ty early on, and he has been with me since the very beginning.

Here is a small piece of a facebook conversation we had last night, highlighting some of the ways I’ve “grown up” as a lifter over the past year.

“I view you as a younger brother almost in terms of lifting
Someone that I’ve taught for a long time
Sometimes you just need a good fucking kick to the head
Sometimes you just need some tid bits of advice
Plus all the way up through this I’ve let you make some mistakes
mainly because you needed to
Sometimes you need to fail, you need to learn, because then you find your drive.
You find your reason for war.
Just a short year ago you were off again on again
I could have written you a program out and made it easy as pie
Have you make great gains and you never doubt your reason for going to the gym
But I wanted you to have a hard time, because now you know what it takes
That it’s not always going to come easy, and now you know the effort that goes into hard work
And now you have a passion for it
A year ago you didn’t have a passion
You were just a whiny kid with excuses
Now you’re a mountain man
Making some good progress on your own”.

That is why, he is among the very best and without him I’d never be where I am today.
